Hennenman is a city in the South African province of Free State (Free State). It is located in the Matjhabeng municipality in the Lejweleputswa district .

geography

In 2011, Hennenman had 3793 residents. The township settlement Phomolong with 20,562 inhabitants is located around five kilometers to the southeast . Hennenman is located in a gold mining area with the center Welkom .

history

The place arose after the construction of the Ventersburg Road station; initially he had this name. In 1927 it was named after a local 19th century farmer, Petrus Hennenman. After the construction of two cement factories , where the local limestone could be used, the place grew. In 1945 a Dutch Reformed Church was built. In 1947 Hennenman was promoted to parish. The township of Vergenoeg was built around five kilometers from Hennenman, the name ( Afrikaans for “far enough”) was meant cynically. Later the name was changed to Phomolong ( Sesotho for "place of rest").

Economy and Transport

The main source of income is agriculture, especially maize cultivation.

Hennenman is on the R70 , which connects Odendaalsrus in the west with Ventersburg in the southeast. Another trunk road connects Johannesburg - Bloemfontein Kroonstad in the northeast via Hennenman with Virginia in the southwest. Hennenman station is used for freight traffic.
