Ventersburg is a city in the South African province of Free State (Free State). It is located in the Matjhabeng municipality in the Lejweleputswa district .
geography
Ventersburg has 1287 inhabitants (2011 census). Immediately to the east are the township settlements of Mmamahabane and Tswelangpele with a total of 9,963 inhabitants. Sesotho is most commonly spoken in Mmamahabene and Tswelangpele . Ventersburg is located on a high plateau around 150 kilometers northeast of Bloemfontein .
history
The Sand River Convention was decided in 1852 just south of what would later become Ventersburg . The Kromfontein farm with its owner PA Venter, who died in 1857, is the starting point of the village. The first plots of land were sold in 1871, and the settlement was recognized in 1873. A Dutch Reformed church was built in 1891, which was burned down by British troops during the Second Boer War , as were many of the town's houses and surrounding farms. In 1903 Ventersburg was recognized as a parish, and in 1912 a new church was built. In 2000 the place came to Matjhabeng Township.
Economy and Transport
The main source of income is agriculture, especially maize cultivation and cattle breeding.
Ventersburg is on National Route 1 , which connects Bloemfontein in the southwest with Kroonstad in the northeast. The R70 runs across it from Odendaalsrus in the northwest to Senekal in the southeast.
Culture
There is a museum in Ventersburg that presents the history of the former South African Police and the South African Police Service .
