Hepacivirus is a genus of single-stranded RNA viruses in the Flaviviridae family . The most important species is Hepacivirus C with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) discovered in 1989 , for which humans are the only known natural host and which can cause hepatitis C, hepatocellular carcinoma as well as malignant lymphoma .

The GB virus B (GBV-B), discovered in 1995, is able to infect New World monkeys , especially marmosets of the tamarine (Sanguini) tribe . Like HCV, it is blood-borne and similar to HCV and is associated with viral hepatitis. However, GBV-B has never been detected in wild animals and its natural host is therefore unknown.
