Herbert Erdmann (born May 10, 1920 , † 1982 ) was a German football player .

Career

Erdmann belonged to Borussia Dortmund , for which he played point games in 1939/40 in the Gauliga Westfalen , in one of initially 16, later increased to 23 Gauligen at the time of National Socialism as the uniform top division in the German Reich . In the club competition for the Tschammerpokal , which was newly created in 1935 , he played the first round game , which he won 3-2 after extra time against Eimsbütteler TV on August 20, 1939 , as well as the second round game he lost 6-1 to VfL Köln 1899 on November 19, 1939 ; in both matches he was successful with one goal each.

After the end of World War II , he played the seasons 1945/46 and 1946/47 in the Landesliga Westfalen as part of the British Zone Championship . He and his club closed the latter with the final as the Westphalian champions won 3-2 on May 18, 1947 against FC Schalke 04 , winner of Group 1. He made his debut in the league on February 1, 1948 (17th matchday) in a 3-1 win at home against VfL Witten and played six more point games in his first season. He scored his first goal on February 22, 1948 (20th matchday) in a 3-0 win in the away game against SpVgg Erkenschwick . During this time he won the West German championship three times in a row with Borussia Dortmund. Due to the success he played for Borussia Dortmund in 1948/49 two games in the finals for the German championship . At its premiere, he played the quarter-finals , which he won 5-0 against Berliner SV 1892 in Berlin on June 12, 1949, and the semi-final against 1. FC Kaiserslautern in Munich on June 26 , which ended goalless despite extra time and did not produce a winner . His club won the repeat game scheduled for July 3 in Cologne 4-1 and advanced to the final. The final held on July 10th in Stuttgart's Neckar Stadium against VfR Mannheim was lost in front of 92,000 spectators with 2: 3 after extra time.
