Herbert Karrenberg
Herbert Karrenberg (born September 11, 1913 in Neuss ; † May 17, 1982 ibid) was a Neuss merchant. He belonged to the CDU and was mayor from 1964 to 1967 and mayor of the city of Neuss between 1967 and 1982 .
Career
Karrenberg was baptized on September 12 or 23, 1913 in St. Marien in Neuss. He celebrated his first communion in St. Marien in 1923 and was confirmed here in 1925. He attended the Rheintorschule (elementary school) in Neuss in 1919 and, from 1923, the Neuss secondary school on Tückingstrasse and Schwannstrasse in Neuss. In 1929 he completed a commercial apprenticeship in Hamburg and graduated from high school in 1933.
Herbert Karrenberg then studied law in Paris, Bonn and Münster and graduated in 1938 with the first state examination in law. In the Second World War he took part as a soldier. First it was used in the western campaign in France from May to June 1940, then between June 21, 1941 and 1945 it was used on the Eastern Front. From 1945 to 1948 he was in Soviet captivity.
After his return he joined the rifle club in Neuss in 1950 and was active here in the rider corps and in the festival committee. He was also involved in the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge, the museum association and the racing association. He became a member of the CDU in Neuss early on and was a member of the Neuss city council from 1961. From 1964 to 1967 he was mayor and between 1967 and 1982 mayor of the city of Neuss.
Herbert Karrenberg died on May 17, 1982 in Neuss and was buried on May 21 in the main cemetery in Neuss.
Private
Karrenberg was engaged to Amely Geyr on September 14, 1931, whom he married on May 19, 1942. The couple had three children: Alice (1943), Beate (1950) and Monika (1960).

Since June 9, 1989, a municipal school, special school for learning and school for the sick in the Neusser Furth has borne his name: Herbert-Karrenberg-Schule.
