Herbert Lang (pastor)

Herbert Lang (born October 31, 1936 in Tagmersheim ) is a German Roman Catholic pastor and historian.

Life

Lang received on 29 June 1962 Bishop Joseph Schröffer in Eichstaett the priesthood . He then worked as a chaplain in Ingolstadt , then in the parishes of Freystadt , Bechhofen , Kipfenberg and Ellingen . After studying in Munich to prepare for school service, he came to Neumarkt idOPf in 1969 . and worked there from 1969 to 1987 as a religion teacher, first at the Willibald-Gluck-Gymnasium and later at the newly established Ostendorfer-Gymnasium . In 1986 he was promoted to director of studies. From the mid-1970s, Lang belonged to the district council of the Neumarkt district idOPf. on. There he was awarded the district medal in gold in 1987 for his political work. During this time he also began to devote himself to Bavarian local history and wrote numerous historical articles for newspapers, festschriften and chronicles.

In 1987, the Eichstatt Bishop Karl Braun entrusted him with the pastoral position at the parish church of St. Emmeram in Wemding . From 1988 to 1998 he also served as dean . He retired on October 1, 2011. From September 2015 to August 2016 he interrupted his retirement and worked as parish administrator of the parish community in Nordendorf .

The Federal President Roman Herzog awarded him the Federal Cross of Merit for his pastoral work and his voluntary work . In 2007 he received the Bavarian Order of Merit from the hand of the Bavarian Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber .

In November 2008 he was received by Pope Benedict XVI. awarded the honorary title of "Chaplain to His Holiness" ( Monsignor ).

On January 6, 2009 he was awarded honorary citizenship of the city of Wemding. Thanks to his efforts, the monastery area, which had been orphaned for several years, was successfully brought back to life by the arrival of the Speyer Carmelites (October 2000).
