Herbert Lauer

Herbert Lauer (born August 7, 1946 in Bamberg ; † May 23, 2021 there ) was a German local politician and Lord Mayor of Bamberg from 1994 to 2006 .

Life

After graduating from the New Gymnasium in Bamberg, Lauer studied law and political science in Erlangen , Munich and Würzburg . From 1974 he worked for the government of the administrative district of Upper Franconia , from 1975 to 1980 he was head of the building department of the Bamberg district office. From 1980 he worked for the city of Bamberg, from 1982 to 1989 he was personal advisor to the mayor Paul Röhner . In 1989 he became social officer for the city of Bamberg, and in 1993 he became a professional city councilor .

After Paul Röhner no longer ran as a candidate in 1994, Lauer allowed himself to be set up for the non-partisan voter community (ÜBG) . In the runoff election, Lauer prevailed against the SPD candidate , Andreas Starke . In 2000, as a joint candidate from the ÜBG and CSU, Lauer received an absolute majority of votes in the first ballot. In 2006 he renounced another candidacy, his successor was Andreas Starke.

In the local elections in 2008 and 2014, Lauer was elected to the city council on the list of free voters (FW, previously ÜBG). In 2020 he renounced another candidacy.

Lauer had been married since 1973 and had two sons and two daughters. Since 1965 he was a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. Fredericia Bamberg in the CV . He was also President of the Universitätsbund Bamberg eV and from 2006 to 2010 President of Brose Baskets .

Lauer died surprisingly on Pentecost Sunday, May 23, 2021.

Honors

On July 29, 2009, the Bamberg city council decided to make Lauer an honorary citizen of Bamberg, "in appreciation and grateful recognition of the great services rendered to the well-being of the citizens and the reputation of the city of Bamberg". On October 15, this appointment was carried out by Lauer's successor, Starke.
