Herbert Piel (born March 19, 1957 in Neuss ) is a German photographer and photojournalist .

Life

Herbert Piel grew up in Neuss , Kleve and Bad Ems and has lived on the Rhine heights above Boppard since 1997 .

In 1975 his first photo was published as an autodidact in the Rhein-Zeitung . From 1975 to 1986 he worked for international agencies such as Reuters , Associated Press and the German Press Agency as well as a commissioned photographer for Stern , Bunte and Spiegel .

From 1986 to 2002 Piel was picture editor in the central editorial office of the Rheinzeitung in Koblenz. He worked on photo reports from Ethiopia , Somalia , Kosovo and from the Kurdish area between Eastern Turkey and Iran as well as photo reports for the aid campaign "Help Us Live" from the former Soviet Union . Herbert Piel is a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state press conference .
