Herchsheim is a district of the Giebelstadt market in the Lower Franconian district of Würzburg in northwestern Bavaria .
Geography and transport links
The place is about two kilometers south of the core town of Giebelstadt on federal highway 19 . The Esbach has its source in the village . After a short run south of the village it flows into the Seebach. The Franconian Marienweg leads past Herchsheim .
history
The first written mention of Herchsheim dates from 779. However, burial mounds north of the village indicate that there were large Celtic settlements before the birth of Christ .
In the second half of the 19th century, Herchsheim came to the district office as an independent municipality without any further districts and later to the district of Ochsenfurt . After its dissolution in 1972, it was incorporated into Giebelstadt as part of the municipal reform in 1978.
At least one of the families who have lived in the village for centuries can be proven to have originally come from today's Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim district and there, above all, from the village of Lipprichhausen, today's Hemmersheim community .
