Heri Joensen (born February 21, 1973 in Tórshavn , Faroe Islands ) is a Faroese metal musician, known as the frontman of the Viking metal group Týr , for whom he composes, writes, sings and plays guitar. Since 2009 he has been working on the solo project Heljareyga in parallel .

Life

According to Joensen, when he was 14 years old, he saw an electric guitar in a shop window in Tórshavn. A few weeks later he bought it along with an amplifier. So far he could only play the recorder from school. He later bought a seven-string Bjarnastein with 29 frets.

His first band was called Cruiser . His current Týr comrade Gunnar H. Thomsen played bass there. After two appearances, the band renamed itself Wolfgang . Long-time Týr drummer Kári Streymoy completed the line-up and they played as an entertainment rock band in the Faroe Islands.

In autumn 1997 Heri Joensen went to Denmark to study music. One evening he met his old bandmate Kári Streymoy there and suggested that they make music together again. Gunnar Thomsen joined them. Without explicitly planning this, the group Týr came into being, which is today the most internationally successful band from the Faroe Islands. Heri Joensen said in an interview:

"We just got together and played the music we like. The style came without further ado and it went without saying that we were going to play metal. "
