Hermann Baumeister (born April 23, 1867 in Karlsruhe ; † March 7, 1944 there ) was a German architecture and landscape painter .

Live and act

Baumeister was the son of Reinhard Baumeister (1833–1917), who is considered the father of modern urban planning . In 1884 he attended the humanistic grammar school in Karlsruhe (today's Bismarck grammar school ). In 1885 he signed up as a one-year volunteer for the artillery in Karlsruhe-Gottesaue.

Baumeister studied at the Technical Universities of Karlsruhe from 1886 to 1888 and in Munich from 1888 to 1890. From 1891 to 1892 he studied with Adolf Seel and at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . Between 1891 and 1908, Baumeister made extensive study trips every year to Tyrol , Corfu , Greece , Hungary , Bosnia-Herzegovina , Tenerife , Madeira , Egypt and Switzerland .

He mainly painted watercolors . In addition to landscapes, his pictures mostly show architecture with Italian motifs. In 1898 he was involved in the visual design of the auditorium at the University of Karlsruhe . Works by Baumeister can occasionally be found in auction shops.

His portrait can be found as a gargoyle on the Stephanienbrunnen in Karlsruhe .
