Hermann Buhl (athlete)
Hermann Buhl (born October 31, 1935 in Hainsberg ; † March 2014 near Seefeld in Tirol ) was a German athlete . The European championship fourth in the 3,000-meter obstacle course in 1962 later became a professor of medicine.
Career
In 1958 Buhl won the GDR championships in the 3000 meter obstacle course ahead of Fred Döring . At the European Championships in Stockholm in 1958 , Buhl finished in 11th place in 9: 03.0 min. In 1959 Buhl successfully defended his championship title. At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, Buhl was eliminated in the preliminary run. In 1961 and 1962 Buhl won the GDR championships in front of Rainer Dörner and Fred Döring. At the European Championships in Belgrade in 1962 , Buhl finished fourth in 8: 47.2 minutes.
Buhl set four GDR records in the 3,000 meter obstacle course. In 1958 he improved Friedrich Janke's record by 2.2 seconds to 8: 51.2 minutes, while Buhl's fourth record on July 3, 1960 was 8: 34.00 minutes. This GDR record was broken by Dieter Hartmann in 1966. 14 days before Hartmann, Manfred Letzerich from Wiesbaden had improved Buhl's performance as an all-German record.
Hermann Buhl started for ASK Vorwärts Berlin , where he was trained by Curt Eins . With a height of 1.75 m, his competition weight was 63 kg.
Buhl was an NVA officer during his career . In 1973 Buhl obtained his medical doctorate, in 1983 he submitted his dissertation B and obtained the title of professor. Hermann Buhl was research director of the FKS as well as head of the GDR High Altitude Medical Center in Kienbaum . After the fall of the Berlin Wall , Hermann Buhl took on research professorships at the University of Paderborn, many teaching activities such as: B. at the University of Marburg , Giessen and in the new millennium a chair for sports medicine at the University of Würzburg . In addition to the teaching activities and the occupation as medical director of various health clinics (Bad Soden, Bavaria, Bad Wildungen ), the intensive examination of hypoxia (altitude training) in prevention and sport should be emphasized .
In March 2014, Hermann Buhl did not return from a hike in the Tyrolean Alps. A hiker found his body in August 2014 in an overgrown channel in high alpine terrain near Seefeld in Tyrol .
