Hermann Krose

Hermann Anton Krose (born May 25, 1867 in Bremen , † September 26, 1949 in Cologne ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian and statistician .

Life

Krose first studied law in Heidelberg , Geneva and Berlin . In 1890 he studied Catholic theology in Innsbruck and in 1891 joined the Jesuit order . After he was ordained a priest in 1900 , he studied statistics and economics in Munich and Berlin from 1902 to 1905 . He was and editor and from 1909 also editor- in- chief of the magazineimmen aus Maria Laach for four years .

He dealt with statistical evaluations early on. Together with Bernard Arens and Anton Huonder, he is considered to be the founders of Catholic missiology , who began at the end of the 19th century to introduce statistical and historical considerations on mission in the journal Die Catholic Missions . At the same time, they were among the supporters of a central statistical office within the Catholic Church. This was founded in 1915 by the Fulda Bishops' Conference in Cologne as the central office for church statistics in Catholic Germany .

Krose also developed the first counting sheet, which was sent to all German parishes as early as 1909. In 1908 Krose had published the Church Handbook for Catholic Germany from Herder based on initial statistical surveys . With the more and more precise and nationally collected values ​​in the following years, the volume of the book, which appeared every two years, also increased. Hermann A. Korse died in 1949. He is buried in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne . Shortly before his death, he published two books by his friend Jón Sveinsson . In 1949 the biography of his friend "Jón Svensson. A life picture 'Nonnis' from his diaries" was published by Herder Verlag, Freiburg im Breisgau.
