Hermann Michael

Hermann Michael (* 1937 in Schwäbisch Gmünd ; † September 1, 2005 in Uffing ) was a German conductor .

Life

During a competition Herbert von Karajan became aware of Hermann Michael and made him his assistant. From 1970 to 1978 he was chief conductor at the Musiktheater Bremen . Since 1984 he has worked mainly in the USA and has worked with the symphony orchestras of Atlanta , Boston , Chicago , Cincinnati , Detroit , Los Angeles , Minnesota , Montreal , Philadelphia , St. Louis , San Francisco , Seattle , Toronto and Washington DC . As an opera conductor he performed a. a. also at the New York Metropolitan Opera . Michael was music director of the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra from 1997 to 2004. Until 2000 he was a professor at the Munich University of Music . There belonged to his students u. a. Franz Welser-Möst , Rudolf Piehlmayer , Markus Poschner and Constantinos Carydis .
