Hermann Schwörer

Hermann Schwörer (born May 1, 1922 in Oberstetten ; † November 24, 2017 ) was a German lawyer , entrepreneur and politician of the CDU . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1958 to 1994 and a parallel member of the European Parliament from 1970 to 1979 .

Life and work

Schwörer was born the son of a factory owner. After attending the Progymnasium in Rottenburg and graduating from high school in Ehingen in 1940 , he initially did Reich labor service . He then began studying law and political science at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . During this time he became a member of the Comradeship Ostland . Since he was drafted into the Wehrmacht , he had to interrupt his studies. From 1941 to 1945 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier , most recently as a lieutenant and company commander .

After the war Schwörer continued his studies, which he in 1947 with the first state examination and after the training period in 1950 with the graduation to the Dr. jur. finished. His doctoral thesis of April 13, 1950, which he wrote in 1949 for the Faculty of Law and Economics in Tübingen, is entitled The criminal connections: A legal historical consideration with special consideration of the applicable law .

From the end of 1950 he worked for the family company Hans Schwörer KG Baustoffwaren in Sigmaringen , where he assumed managerial positions. Together with his brother, he later became the managing director of the Sigmaringer property company Schwörer Haus GmbH & Co. KG .

Since the end of August 2007, Dr. Hermann Schwörer Foundation , a foundation under civil law , with legal capacity. The purpose of the foundation is to promote art and culture, the idea of ​​home, customs, sport, non-profit institutions and the granting of direct help to the poor as well as donations to non-profit church institutions. Hermann Schwörer was its board member until his death.

He was married to Sophie Schwörer geb. Belstler.

Political activity

Schwörer joined the CDU in 1951, at the same time joined the Junge Union and had been state treasurer of the Junge Union Württemberg-Hohenzollern since 1953. From 1952 to 1957 he was first managing director and then from 1957 to 1968 chairman of the CDU district association Sigmaringen. In addition, he was chairman of the CDU SME Committee Württemberg-Hohenzollern and was elected to the state board of the CDU Württemberg-Hohenzollern.

Schwörer was a member of the German Bundestag from October 21, 1958, when he replaced the deceased Member of Parliament Herbert Wolff , until 1994. He was initially drawn into parliament via the Baden-Württemberg state list, represented the constituency of Balingen from 1965 to 1980 and the constituency of Zollernalb - Sigmaringen from 1980 to 1994 . From 1970 to 1979 he was also a member of the European Parliament .

Other memberships, honors and awards

Hermann Schwörer was awarded the Great Federal Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1982 and the Medal of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg on April 25, 1998 . In 2009 he received the European Medal and in 2010 the German Army Cross of Honor in Gold .

He was a member of the Association of Friends of the Archabbey of St. Martin eV and a member of the Association of the ABA Albstadt eV
