Hermann Walenta
Hermann Walenta (born January 23, 1923 in Drosendorf ; † December 24, 2018 in Riegersburg ) was a sculptor , graphic artist and painter from Austria . He worked in natural and artificial stone , wood and bronze .
Education
Hermann Walenta studied from 1940 to 1941 and from 1945 to 1948 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Professors Josef Müller and Fritz Wotruba . Since 1972 he lived and worked again in his birthplace Drosendorf.

Exhibitions
After completing his studies, Hermann Walenta worked as a freelance artist from 1948. He participated in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad, such as the Venice Biennale in 1951 with graphic works and 1956 with plastic works. In 1957 he took part in the Antwerp Biennale and the Tokyo and Osaka Biennale . In 1960 he was a participant in the sculpture symposium St. Margarethen and in other sculpture symposia, such as in 1970 in Lindabrunn , 1970 in the sculpture symposium Krastal in Carinthia , 1984 Burgas in Bulgaria, 1986 and 1987 Nagyatád in Hungary and 1990 and 1991 Laas in South Tyrol and at other such events.
Awards
His work has received several awards, for example in 1958 with the Promotion Prize of the City of Vienna, 1967 Promotion Prize and 1977 with the Culture Prize of the State of Lower Austria; 1980 with the gold medal and title of the Accademico d'Italia of the Accademia delle Arti e del Lavoro .
Exhibitions
His first solo exhibition took place in 1949 on the occasion of the International University Weeks in Alpbach , after which he exhibited in numerous solo exhibitions until 1993 in Paris , Vienna, Munich , Venice, Salzburg, Paris and Palm Beach . His first participation in group exhibitions took place in 1952 at the Venice Biennale , further group exhibitions took place in Tokyo , New York , Monte Carlo , Italy , Bulgaria , Hungary and South Tyrol .
