Hermann Weishaupt

Friedrich Wilhelm Hermann Weishaupt (born June 4, 1815 in Magdeburg , † July 13, 1869 in Elberfeld ) was a German master builder and Prussian construction clerk , most recently in the rank of secret councilor .

Life

Weishaupt was the eldest of four sons of the Neuhaldensleber district master builder Friedericus Germanus Weishaupt and his wife Dorothea Regina Weishaupt, nee. Busse from Neuhaldensleben was born in Magdeburg. After childhood and youth in Quedlinburg , training and professional positions took him to Neuhaldensleben, Berlin , Magdeburg, Görlitz , Liegnitz , Paderborn and Elberfeld, where he died of pneumonia at the age of fifty-four and unmarried. His younger brother was Head of Construction and Ministerial Director Theodor Weishaupt .

education

After attending the city school and grammar school in Quedlinburg, where his father worked from 1817 as a building inspector or superstructure inspector, Hermann Weishaupt, after preparatory work with his cousin, the geometer Spott in Neuhaldensleben, and the theoretical training in Berlin in Magdeburg, took the Surveyor exam . From 1834 to 1836 he studied at the General Building School in Berlin and passed the preliminary examination as a master builder in 1837. In 1841 the preliminary examination as a building inspector followed, in 1843 the examination as a land, water and road builder.

Professional career

In 1837 he worked first under hydraulic engineer Arendt in the construction of locks in Parey (Elbe) , then until 1839 and again in 1841 with his father in the Quedlinburg construction district and in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd sections of the Magdeburg-Lüneburg road construction (1839-1841).

In September 1843 he was made head of technical offices of the railway company by the construction inspector and technical director of the Lower Silesian-Märkische Railway (NME) Ludwig Benjamin Henz , which began his long-term activity in railway construction. From 1844 he was chief engineer for the section of the NME from Kohlfurt to Görlitz , which was opened in 1847 as the last of the railway. After a short-term position as a road construction inspector in Liegnitz in the revolutionary year of 1848, Weishaupt followed Henz in 1849 to the Royal Westphalian Railway Company , which had been created shortly before the Prussian state took over the Cöln-Minden-Thuringian connecting railway (Hamm-Warburg).

As a departmental builder, Weishaupt was responsible for the newly designed Paderborn-Warburg mountain route, during which three important bridge structures were built up to the opening in 1853: the Altenbeken Viaduct , the Dune Viaduct and the Waldmühlen Viaduct. In addition, the Diemel Bridge near Warburg, which had already been started, had to be painstakingly restored. During the project, Weishaupt was promoted to royal railway construction master in 1850 and to royal railway construction inspector in 1852.

On August 1, 1853, he was appointed the first technical member of the royal management of the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn in Elberfeld and was subsequently responsible for a large number of new railway lines to be built until his death, briefly until 1856 also for rail operations.

Weishaupt was awarded the 4th Class Red Eagle Order in 1853 for his achievements in building the Paderborn-Warburg railway line . In 1861 he was awarded the 3rd Class Red Eagle Order for building the Ruhr-Sieg Railway.
