Hermenegild by Francesconi
Hermenegild Ritter von Francesconi (born October 9, 1795 in Cordignano , Veneto , † June 8, 1862 in Sacile , Veneto) was an Austrian railway engineer .
Live and act
Francesconi came from Veneto , which belonged to the Austrian Empire from 1797 to 1866 . After attending the Modena artillery engineering school , he joined the Austrian corps of genius as a pioneer officer in 1815 . Among other things, he was involved in the design and construction of the railway bridge from Pordenone over the Meduna .
He then joined the Venice Building Department in 1822 and was transferred to the state building administration, where he was initially involved in water, harbor and road construction before he was appointed court building officer in 1829. As such, he had a certain influence on the river regulation of the Danube in Vienna , Pressburg and Budapest before he took over the management of the preparatory work for the first Austrian locomotive railway, the Kaiser-Ferdinand-Nordbahn , in 1836 . He was entrusted with the preparatory work for the establishment of a state railway network as the shop steward of the court chamber president Karl Friedrich von Kübeck and also wrote the organizational draft for the general management of the Austrian state railways founded in 1842. As its board member, he was in charge of all the state railways that were running at the time and, when creating the rail network, also found a solution for crossing the Semmering and was largely responsible for the construction of the Semmering Railway , which was built by Carl von Ghega from 1848 . Francesconi held his office as inspector general of the Kaiser-Ferdinand-Nordbahn until his death in 1862.
In June 8, 1862. Age 66 years Sacile late Francesconi was in 1847 ennobled . His daughter Elisabeth had been married to the ophthalmologist Ignaz Gulz since 1846 .
