Herta Classen

Herta Classen , nee Herta Baer , (born March 5, 1913 in Chemnitz , † April 17, 1986 in Berlin ) was a German journalist in the GDR . From 1956 to 1959 she was editor-in-chief of the Deutschlandsender and from 1959 to 1969 director of the Berliner Rundfunk .

Life

Classen, daughter of an employee , learned after the folk and business school the profession of paralegal , where she worked until the 1933rd Then she was a saleswoman at the Leinehaus Voigt in Pulsnitz in Saxony until 1946 .

After the end of World War II , Classen joined the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and in 1946 became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). In 1946 she began her journalistic career as a state parliamentary reporter for the Sächsische Zeitung . From 1948 to 1953 she studied at the Karl Marx party college of the SED. From 1949 to 1951 she was press officer of the SED party executive committee, later of the central committee (ZK) of the SED .

From 1951 to 1956 Classen was editor , then until 1959 editor-in-chief of the Deutschlandsender and then until 1969 director of the Berliner Rundfunk, for which she was active as a commentator until the 1980s .

From 1960 to 1971 Classen was a member of the SED district leadership in Berlin and from 1961 deputy chairwoman of the State Broadcasting Committee , and from 1961 to 1967 member of the executive committee of the central board of the Association of Journalists of the GDR . In addition, Classen was deputy chairwoman of the GDR-Japan friendship society from 1962 to 1966 .
