Hervé van der Straeten

Hervé van der Straeten (* 1965 in Brétigny-sur-Orge , Essonne department , France ) is a French designer of jewelry, furniture, mirrors and lamps.

Life

Van der Straeten was introduced to the subject of design through his father. He attended the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris , where he studied painting. Inspired by his friends in the fashion industry, including Isabel Marant , Christian Lacroix and Thierry Mugler , he started creating costume jewelry for them from 1985 onwards . He was also very successful internationally, turning to materials such as wood, marble and various metals six years later.

On the eastern outskirts of Paris , in Bagnolet , Département Seine-Saint-Denis , 40 artists from the trades now produce furniture joinery, bronze foundry and glassblowing according to van der Straeten's designs. Some of his creations are shown in his gallery in the Paris Marais .

The designer has designed a wide variety of things in the past, e.g. B. for Christian Dior the bottle for the perfume J'adore , the sleeves for the lipstick Kiss Kiss by Guerlain , porcelain for the Bernandaud company in Limoges , furniture for the Paris company ILEX or the Excess series for the Cristalleries de Saint Louis in Lorraine .

The furniture based on Van der Straeten's designs is for example in the boutique of the shoe brand Roger Vivier in Moscow and can be seen at Harrods in London and Saks Fifth Avenue in Manhattan . He is the supplier of the furnishings for French castles and public buildings, the Mobilier national , and one of his customers is Steven Spielberg or Madonna .

Van der Straeten has been with Bruno Frisoni , who has been creative director at the Roger Vivier shoe store since 2002, since the 1990s . The couple has since married and lives both in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district in Paris and in Tangier in Morocco .
