Parish Church of the Sacred Heart

The Church of the Heart of Jesus , although it was only built between 1924 and 1926, is the oldest parish church in Bischofswiesen . It belongs to the parish Herz Jesu Bischofswiesen and thus to the Roman Catholic parish association Stiftsland Berchtesgaden in the archdiocese of Munich and Freising .

history

From around the end of the 19th century, the Roman Catholic citizens of Bischofswiesen were looked after by chaplains from Berchtesgaden as pastors. It was only with the construction of the Sacred Heart Church on an area of 34 square kilometers that the first independent parish could gradually be founded in Bischofswiesen. The start of planning and construction in November 1923 was only possible thanks to the support of numerous volunteers from Bischofswiesen as well as the architect Georg Metzendorf (1874–1934), who was known at the time for the construction of the Margarethenhöhe in Essen and who created the building plans for the church free of charge would have. Shortly after the end of the German inflation from 1914 to 1923 , the church was initially only equipped with the bare essentials from the holdings of other churches with an old high altar from Berchtesgaden, a figure of Mary and a simple confessional after its completion in 1926 and could not even be whitewashed at first become.

Even if the former Pension Dinzler was acquired as a parsonage in 1927 and a lot of money had to be borrowed for it, it took until 1934 for the parish of Bischofswiesen to gain at least a limited degree of independence as a branch . In addition to the Bischofswiesen Gnotschaft , Winkl and Loipl as well as parts of Strub and the western part of the Stanggaß were allocated to the new pastoral care area .

In 1958 the old high altar with the Sacred Heart figure could no longer be repaired. In its place there was a depiction of the Sacred Heart by Berchtesgaden artist Hans Richter as the new center of the church. The first church renovation from 1974 to 1976 was followed by a general renovation between 1996 and 2001, which changed the parish church significantly. For the first time, the roof was covered so that it was watertight and all installations were brought up to the latest technical standards. In addition, emphasis was now placed on a coherent overall artistic concept.
