Chapel of the Beatitudes

The Chapel of the Beatitudes (also: Kirchleitnkapelle ) is a chapel in the Roman Catholic parish of St. Andreas in Berchtesgaden in Bavaria in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising .

Buildings and history

The Chapel of the Beatitudes forms the end of a meditation path that starts in the Berchtesgadener Nonntal and leads past nine steles with bronze sculptures to introduce the Sermon on the Mount and the eight Beatitudes . The cast concrete steles were created by Peter Adler from Wasserburg , the bronze sculptures by Leopold Hafner Junior (son of Leopold Hafner ) from Aicha vorm Wald .

The establishment of this ensemble is based on an idea by Pastor Peter Demmelmair, which was implemented in just under two years with the support of his family and friends and acquaintances under the leadership of Franz Brandner, the Mitterweinfeldhof's farmer. Brandner had already acquired the property on Lockstein "and, against some resistance, brought it into a proper condition". The location of the chapel is the Ponnzenzenbichl , derived from the nickname of Franz Brandner's grandfather, on the Lockstein in Mitterweinfeld (field name). Another name chosen by Franz Brandner himself for the location is Kirchleitn or Kirchleitnbichl , as four Berchtesgaden churches are visible from here and the "Leitn" is located above the rectory and rectory.

In 2009 on the Assumption of Mary (August 15) and on Sunday (August 16) the Chapel of the Beatitudes and the meditation path with candlelight procession and pontifical mass etc. a. inaugurated by Auxiliary Bishop Bernhard Haßlberger .
