Hesselbach is part of the Butschbach district of the city of Oberkirch in the Ortenau district in Baden-Württemberg .

history

Hesselbach was first mentioned as Haselbach in 1196. Other historical place names were Heselenbach, Heselnbach and Hesselbachl. The first mention as Hesselbach comes from 1475. Hesselbach is a residential area .

Hesselbach was an independent municipality until 1837, which initially belonged to the Staufenberg manor and then from 1660 to the episcopal-Strasbourg rule of Oberkirch .

The place Hesselbach is located at the upper south-eastern end of the Hesselbach valley below the 436.2  m high Geigerskopf . The St. Josef Chapel was built in Hesselbach in 1877.

The Hesselbach , which gives the valley and the community its name, is a left tributary of the Rench .
