The Löwenweg is a long-distance hiking trail in Hesse . The hiking trail is marked with the white St. Andrew's cross X as a sign , extended by the number 2 at intersections . The name stands for the lion of the coat of arms of Hesse .

The Löwenweg was planned in the 1930s from the Westphalian Warburg via Alsfeld , the Vogelsberg to the Spessart, but only implemented on the 158-kilometer stretch in North Hesse to Alsfeld. As the Kurhessische through hiking route it leads from the Diemel through the low mountain range of the Habichtswälder Bergland and the Knüllgebirge to the upper reaches of the Schwalm . It is looked after by the Hessisch-Waldeckischer Gebirgs- und Heimatverein (HWGHV) in the north, the Knüllgebirgsverein and the Oberhessischer Gebirgsverein in the south.

Hessenweg 2

Today the Löwenweg also forms part of the Hessenweg signposted from 1982 to 1984, more precisely the northern part of Hessenweg 2 , which is also referred to as the Löwenweg as a whole. Hessenweg 2 continues the route of the original Löwenweg from Alsfeld via Vogelsberg and Gelnhausen to Hirschhorn am Neckar and covers a distance of 373 kilometers or 404 kilometers according to the signs.
