Hauptschwenda is a district of the city of Neukirchen in the Schwalm-Eder district in Hesse .

Hauptschwenda is located on the western edge of the Knüllgebirge am Urbach. The Schwalm joins in the west . The village is located around 5 km northeast of the core town of Neukirchen. The next largest cities are Kassel (about 50 kilometers north), Marburg (about 40 kilometers west), Fulda (about 40 kilometers south-east) and Bad Hersfeld (about 25 kilometers east). State roads 3156 and 3161 meet in the village .

history

The village was first mentioned in documents in 1223. In 1506 the pilgrimage to the St. Anne's Chapel was mentioned. It was only carried out for a short time, namely until 1527. In 1777 there was already a mill in the village.

On December 31, 1971, Hauptschwenda was incorporated into Neukirchen as part of the regional reform in Hesse .
