Hetzjagd is a semi-documentary series noir style, British crime film from 1960 from the Hammer Films production . Directed by Val Guest , Stanley Baker plays a die-hard provincial police officer who chases after a felon who has broken out.
action
Don Starling and Harry Martineau have something in common: They both grew up in the filthy and poor backyards of Manchester . And both have known each other since that time. But while Martineau wanted to make something of his life and went to the police to hunt down criminals, Starling has taken the other path, that of the unscrupulous criminal. But like Starling, Martineau's life has made a hard-boiled “whole guy” who bites his way through life against all odds and does not shy away from fistfights should this be necessary. One day when the serving starling breaks out of prison, he kills a guard there. Immediately he dives and looks for his old gangsters of yore, his former gang. Starling immediately reverts to its old behavior.
Together with his people he ambushes the bookmaker Gus Hawkins and steals 4,000 pounds from him. When a 19-year-old girl dies in the act, Don's old friend Martineau becomes active and immediately follows Starling's lead. A chase through the streets of Manchester begins. It's a duel on equal terms, because Martineau, hardened by (professional) life, knows his way around the world of miserable tenements and dim underworld bars like Starling, who wants to move abroad. Starling has another advantage. While his old confidante Martineau is so devoured by his job that his marriage to his wife Julia is in danger of collapsing, Don, who even has an affair with the wife of the robbed Gus, is far more relaxed and does a dangerous cat-and-do -Mouse game with his adversary.

"Solid thriller in remarkable locations and with first-class actors who lags behind its own standards."
