High Fighter is a Hamburg based sludge and stoner doom band that was founded in 2014.

history

The band was formed in the summer of 2014 by former members of A Million Miles, Buffalo Hump and Pyogenesis . In the same year the EP The Goat Ritual was released . The sound carrier was recorded live within a weekend. In 2015 she performed with bands like Ahab , Mammoth Storm , The Midnight Ghost Train , Sunnata, Greenleaf and Corrosion of Conformity . She was also seen at Stoned from the Underground , Sonic Blast in Portugal , Red Smoke in Poland , Hamburg Metal Dayz and Wacken Open Air . In June 2016 the debut album Scars & Crosses was released via Svart Records , which was recorded in the Mannheim Rama Studio under the direction of Jens Siefert within a week and then mixed and mastered by Toshi Kasai . As on the EP, the material was recorded live.

Jens Peters from Rock Hard found that the hardcore punk share on the debut album had decreased and only sludge and stoner rock dominated. In an interview with him, the singer Miluski stated that this was not on purpose, but was only due to the fact that the band had grown closer together and now sound more homogeneous. In addition to hardcore punk, sludge and stoner metal, the group also tries to incorporate influences from heavy metal , doom metal and blues . The lyrics are mostly personal and serve to come to terms with the past, whereby Miluski often likes to take up the subject of heaven and hell. In the same issue, Thomas Kupfer reviewed the album, noting that it's hard to just pigeonhole the band in Doom Metal and Sludge. The songs contain melodies that are gripping but bulky. In addition, influences from the blues and occasionally hardcore punk can be heard. On the album you do a “balancing act between brute boom and restrained moments”. Manuel Liebler from Metal Hammer wrote in his review of the EP that it sounds timeless and that the "vocals range from ballad-like tones to almost psychotic screams ". The band draws its influences from doom metal as well as stoner and psychedelic rock . In an interview from the same issue, the band stated influences from doom metal, blues, rock , sludge, metal and hardcore punk. Specifically, these are groups like Pantera , Crowbar , Kyuss , Down and EyeHateGod .
