Highfields

Highfields is a small town directly north of Toowoomba in Queensland , Australia with about 9,500 inhabitants (as of 2016). Located on the New England Highway in the Great Dividing Range , a little north of Mount Kynoch , it is a satellite town of Toowoomba where many of the residents are employed.

The Highfields State School is located in the middle of the city and is one of two primary schools. Toowoomba Christian College is the only high school in highfields and has both a prep and a primary school attached.

A small cluster of shops can be found at the junction of the New England Highway on Highfields Road, including another bakery, deli, hairdresser, real estate agent, and auto parts store. There is a motel with a restaurant on the New England Highway itself .

Opened in 2003, a mall has a number of stores, including a Thrifty-Link tool shop , Brumby's Bakeries bakery and Woolworths supermarket and public house. There is also a café, a butcher's and a fruit and vegetable shop that also sells fruit juices, salads and sandwiches.

Finally, there is another mall in Highfields that was renovated and redesigned in 2007. There are various banks, a Coles supermarket, various retail stores, a newsagents and a hairdresser.

The place also has a cultural center with a hall for meetings and performances. The complex also includes an outdoor swimming pool, as well as volleyball and basketball courts and a sports hall. The community library is adjacent and there is a facility for skateboarders opposite .

Highfields is home to a football club, Highfields FC.

Attractions

The Highfields Pioneer Historical Village is an open air museum with a collection of historical machines. There is a fully functional smithy , a historic chapel , a Dennis Fire Engine manufactured in Toowoomba in 1928 , a prison with two holding cells built in 1903, some Ford T automobiles and a collection of old radios and household appliances.

The Davidson Arboretum , which was established in 1989 by the local couple Ken and Mary Davidson, has around 500 different plant varieties. It has an area of ​​about 2.5  hectares . A little more than an acre of it is open to the public.
