history

Hilgert was first mentioned in a document as Hilgerode in 1376 . Before 1580 the village probably belonged to the parish of Roßbach in the county of Sayn , later Hilgert belonged to the parish of Puderbach and the county of Wied . The church affiliation changed temporarily, in 1615 a part of the place was assigned to the parish of Oberdreis. During the 18th century Hilgert was part of the parish of Freirachdorf . Until 1806 the place was part of the County of Wied-Runkel. Hilgert then came to the Duchy of Nassau and belonged to the Dierdorf office in the Ehrenbreitstein administrative district . Through the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna , the area around Hilgert was ceded to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815. There Hilgert belonged to the mayor's office in Niederwambach in the Neuwied district of the Koblenz administrative district . This became part of the Rhine province in 1822 .

In Hilgert there had been a ban mill of the County of Wied since the 17th century . In addition to Hilgert, the villages of Dendert, Weroth and Woldert also belonged to the mill ban. According to a lease from 1690, the leaseholder of the mill had to pay an annual rent of 110 Reichstalers . The mill ban was lifted in 1845 and the mill was sold.

The mayor's office Niederwambach was renamed to Amt Niederwambach in 1927 and merged with the Amt Puderbach to form the new Amt Puderbach in 1937. Hilgert has belonged to Rhineland-Palatinate since the end of the Second World War . In 1968 the Puderbach Association was formed from the Puderbach Office . On March 16, 1974, the municipality Hilgert was incorporated into Woldert as part of a municipal area reform. At the time of its dissolution, the Hilgert community had 68 inhabitants.
