The Himno Nacional Mexicano has been the officially confirmed Mexican national anthem since 1943 . The first line of the text is often used as the title: Mexicanos, al grito de guerra ("Mexicans, on the call to war"). The hymn has been in official use since 1854 .
The text has five stanzas of four lines each and a four-line refrain. On official occasions only the first two stanzas are usually sung.
Emergence
The text calling for the defense of the country and reporting on the Mexican victories was written by the poet Francisco González Bocanegra in 1853 while he was locked in a room by his fiancée. The music was created in 1854 by the composer Jaime Nunó to the text of Bocanegra.
The final national anthem is the result of a competition on November 12, 1853 with more than 15 participants, which was announced by the President General Mariano Arista . The song was officially introduced as the new national anthem on September 16, 1854 at the celebrations of Mexican independence.
