Hinrich R. Reinstrom

Hinrich Rudolf Reinstrom (born September 25, 1926 - † October 15, 2017 ) was a German historian and employee of the Goethe Institute .

Hinrich Reinstrom studied history , German , English and philosophy at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich from 1947 to 1950 . Between 1950 and 1952 he was a Fulbright scholar at the University of Mississippi , where he received his BA in 1952. This was followed by a further DAAD scholarship in 1952/53 , with the help of which he stayed in London. In 1953/54 he studied "Bavarian-French relations in the middle of the 18th century" as a fellow of the French High Commissioner .

In 1955 Reinstrom became head of the Goethe-Institut in Munich, 1958 in Arolsen , 1961 in Damascus , 1962 head of the language department of the Goethe-Institut in Casablanca , 1964 in Cairo , where he was also deputy director. In 1967 he became director of the Asociation Cultural Humboldt in Caracas , and in 1974 lecturer at the Goethe-Institut Blaubeuren . From 1979 to 1985 he headed the Goethe Institute in Beirut and then became a lecturer at the institute in Rothenburg ob der Tauber and headed the institute in Amman from 1987 until his retirement .

On leaving the Beirut Goethe Institute in 1985, Reinstrom was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class and the Lebanese Order of Merit for Culture 1st Class . He was often concerned with the historical relationships between his host countries and Germany.
