The rear Daunkopf from the northeast |
The Hintere Daunkopf is a mountain in the western main ridge of the Stubai Alps . The summit can be reached in a relatively short time from the Stubai Glacier Ski Area to the southeast of the mountain .
topography
The rear Daunkopf breaks off steeply towards the southeast with a flat rock face. Towards the south, it falls with the south ridge and a partially twisted flank to the Daunjoch 3057 m , under whose west side the Sulztalferner runs along. On its north side, the Daunkopf has a glaciated hollow, which is bordered on its east side by the north ridge, which leads to the northern Daunkogel 3076 m and further to the Bockkogel 3095 m . To the east and northeast of the summit lies the Daunkopfferner, below steeper falls . Towards the east, the Hintere Daunkopf sends a longer ridge, at the end of which the Vordere Daunkopf is 2882 m .
Paths and routes
From the Daunjoch the summit can be reached partly via a firn or ice slope, partly via a steep path. From the north it is possible to climb out of the Sulztal via a glaciated hollow. The north ridge offers climbing difficulties in III. Degree on the UIAA scale . The ridge to the Vorderen Daunkopf requires climbing grade II. The mountain is often climbed on skis, especially in winter, although the ascent from the Stubai Glacier ski area over the south ridge is relatively short. Other ski routes lead from the north through the glaciated hollow to the summit or from the east over the Daunkopfferner.
Since December 2012, the glacier ski area has been stretching to just below the Daunjoch with a chairlift.
