The Hirfanlı Dam ( Turkish Hirfanlı Barajı ) is located in the center of the Asian Minor Peninsula and dams the Kızılırmak to the 263 km² large Hirfanlı Reservoir .
The reservoir forms the border between the provinces of Kırşehir and Ankara over long stretches . The 78 m high stone rubble dam, built between 1953 and 1959, dammed the largest reservoir in Central Anatolia , which was the largest reservoir in Turkey until the Keban Dam was completed.
The dam was built to regulate floods and generate electricity and is also used for irrigation purposes and for bathing tourism and excursions. There is also fishing, the products of which are sold as far as Ankara.
The hydropower plant has an installed capacity of 128 MW. The standard work capacity is 400 GWh per year.
