biography

After Noriyo Hiroi had already won several FIS races and competitions in the Far East Cup , she started in the World Cup from the 1996/97 season . For the first time in the second round of the best 30 she came on February 2nd, 1997 in the slalom of Laax . She finished the race in 25th position and won her first World Cup points. Shortly afterwards she took part in the 1997 World Championships in Sestriere , where she was eliminated in slalom and giant slalom. Even at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , she was not spared failures and did not finish in either the slalom or the giant slalom. In the World Cup, after her first point win, the Japanese remained without a countable result for over two years and was only able to score several times again in the 1999/2000 season . At the end of this winter she won her only World Cup point in giant slalom in 30th place in Sestriere. In the European Cup , in which she regularly participated from 1998, she achieved good results and with several podium places she reached fourth place in the slalom classification in the 1998/99 and 1999/2000 seasons. She was also successful in the Far East Cup and achieved second place in the overall and slalom classification as well as third in the giant slalom classification in the 2000 season .

In the 2000/01 season Noriyo Hiroi achieved better results in the World Cup. On December 20, 2000 she finished 17th in the slalom of Sestriere for the first time among the fastest 20 and a week later she achieved the best World Cup result of her career with tenth place in Semmering . In the second half of the season she drove three more times under the fastest 16 and thus reached 19th place in the Slalom World Cup, which was her best overall result. After not taking part in the 1999 World Championships, Noriyo Hiroi started again at the 2001 World Championships in St. Anton am Arlberg and achieved her first result at a major event with 26th place in the giant slalom. In the slalom she failed again. Hiroi could not repeat the World Cup results of the 2000/01 season in the next few years. Although she made it into the points several times, she barely managed to make it into the top 20. The 19th place in the slalom in Saalbach-Hinterglemm on January 13, 2002 was her last top 20 result in the World Cup for almost four years, which is why she from 2003 also started again increasingly in the European Cup. On January 25, 2002, she won her only European Cup race, the slalom in Rogla , Slovenia , but never made it into the top five after that.

The Japanese showed a good performance at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . There she was 28th in the slalom after the first run, but was able to improve to 14th with the eleventh fastest time in the second run. In the giant slalom, she finished 29th. Placements around 30th place were also achieved at the 2003 World Championships in St. Moritz and 2005 in Bormio . In St. Moritz she only started in slalom and finished 29th, in Bormio she started again in both disciplines, finished 30th in giant slalom, but was eliminated in slalom. On December 11, 2005, Noriyo Hiroi achieved her best World Cup result for over four and a half years with 18th place in the slalom in Aspen and by the end of the 2005/06 season - her last - two 20th places followed in Zagreb and Ofterschwang . At her last major event, the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , she achieved 26th place in giant slalom and 29th place in slalom.
