Hiroyuki Sanada MBE ( Japanese 真 田 広 之 Sanada Hiroyuki ; born October 12, 1960 in Tokyo ) is a Japanese film and stage actor. The name Sanada is believed, its real name is Hiroyuki Shimosawa ( 下 澤 廣 之 , Shimosawa Hiroyuki ).

Life

He made his film debut at the age of five in the film Rokyoku komori-uta . At the age of 12 he had already taken an interest in martial arts . He also learned to ride and studied traditional Japanese dances. The graduate of the film faculty of Nihon University first pursued a career as an action actor. In Yagyū ichizoku no inbō (1978) he had his first role in a historical action film, further film assignments followed. The actor performed his stunts himself and became a sought-after star of the genre with his film role in Mahjong hōrōki (1984) at the latest . Today he is a senior member of the Japan Action Club .

He developed into a very versatile actor. In German-speaking countries he is known primarily for his role as a swordsman in The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise or the Ringu - horror films .

Between 1999 and 2000, Sanada - the first Japanese - played the court jester in an English production of King Lear with the Royal Shakespeare Company . For his services he was awarded the Order of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by the British Queen Elizabeth II .

In 2007 he starred in the third part of Rush Hour with Jackie Chan . After appearing in the television series Lost (2010) and Revenge (2011–2012), he appeared in 2013 Wolverine: Weg des Kriegers .
