The Hjortøboen is a Danish motor ferry that has been in regular service between Svendborg and Hjortø in the Danish South Sea ( Danish Sydfynske Øhav ) since 1976 .
history
The ferry was built by Ejvinds Plasticjolle- og Bådeværft in Rantzausminde near Svendborg and delivered in 1976. The hull is made of glass fiber reinforced plastic .
With the diesel engine with 100 kW , the ship reaches a top speed of nine knots .
The ferry is operated by the shipping company I / S Hjortøbåden (Fyns Amt & Svendborg Kommune) .
In the summer season from June 25 to August 14, 2016, the ship also operated the route Hjortø - Skarø - Avernakø - Drejø - Hjortø to give holidaymakers the opportunity to get from island to island without the detour via Svendborg.
The ship can be ordered for special trips to Birkholm for the transport of larger items such as building materials that the mail boat Birkholm cannot carry.
