The Hochkar-Schutzhaus , originally called the Kremser Hütte , is an alpine hut and is located in the Hochkar ski area in Lower Austria , near Lassing in the Göstling municipality on the Ybbs , near the Styrian border.

The Hochkar shelter is located in the Nordkar des Hochkar  ( 1808  m above sea level ), the main massif of the Göstling Alps in the Lassing Alps of the Ybbstal Alps . It is located on the Bodenalm at 1,491  m above sea level. A. Höhe, and is now surrounded by the many houses in the ski area, in particular the Sportpension Hochkar , which is the contact point for the hut, and the small Hochkaralm snack station .

history

In January 1887, the general assembly of the Krems-Stein section of the Austrian Tourist  Club (ÖTK) decided to build a Krems hut ; on September 14, 1890 the refuge was opened. As early as the 1920s, the ski area became popular as Vienna's local mountain . The first extensions were made in 1921 and 1924 to cope with the rush. From 1923 the house was managed all year round. Today the Hochkar-Schutzhaus, which is looked after by ÖTK Scheibbs , is both a hostel, a snack bar and a restaurant, for skiing as well as for the summer season.

Approach, lifts and hikes

The Hochkaralpenstraße is a toll road .
The Hochkarschutzhaus can be reached on foot from Lassing in 2½ hours (Blachl - Wassergraben - Schottenschlag - Hochkarboden) , and from Göstling in 4 hours. From half-timbered the ascent over the Hochkar summit takes 3½ hours.

From the hut lifts lead to the Hochkargipfel (four chairlift Hochkar Vorgipfel) , as well as the Häsing (four chairlift ) and to the Höll (four chairlift Almlift , from where it continues to the Leckerplan ).

The hiking destination is the Hochkargipfel in 1¼ hours - with the chairlift to the Kammhöhe about 20 minutes to the summit.

To the east, the Alpinweg runs as a high-altitude path to Dürrenstein , and on to Lunz am See or at least as a 2-day tour to Ötscher . After 8 hours, the Ybbstaler Hut on the Dürrenstein is located here.
The Schwarzalm hut can be reached in 2½ hours, via the not managed Brunnecker hut as an easy forest and alpine hike.

In addition, you can reach the Hochkar cave , which is not far away , which is under nature protection and accessible as a show cave with guided tours.

There has been a high ropes course at the Hochkaralm since 2008 , and the Heli Kraft via ferrata begins there .
