The Hochwald Milch eG is a cooperative that is active as the parent company, which operates in the food production Hochwald group. The main subsidiary is the 100% subsidiary Hochwald Foods GmbH.
The company was founded in 1932 as Genossenschaft Erbeskopf eG . The headquarters and production site are in Thalfang in the Hunsrück , and production is also carried out at the Bolsward , Erftstadt , Hünfeld , Hungen , Kaiserslautern , Lüneburg and Weiding sites . Mainly dairy products are produced. Hochwald has given itself the business areas “National Dairy Products”, “National Brands”, “Cheese”, “Ingredients” and “International”.
Products
The product range includes milk , condensed milk , cream , cheese , UHT milk , H-cream, UHT milk-based drinks, fresh dairy products, dessert products, yogurt , butter cheese and until 2016 also preserved.
The company processes milk from around 6,000 suppliers. In 2010, more than 2 billion kg of raw milk were processed.
Well-known brands for Germany are Bärenmarke , Glücksklee ( introduced by Otto Lagerfeld in 1923 ) and Lünebest , Elinas and Hochwald . Export brands are Bonny , Milcow , Mana and Happy Day . The company generates around a third of its sales abroad. The company also produces various brands of the Rewe Group , Schwarz Group , Real , Globus Holding and Netto Marken-Discount .
history
The current plant in Lüneburg was founded in 1893 as a cooperative , yoghurt was produced there from 1952, fruit yoghurt from 1962, and the brand name “Lünebest” was introduced in this context . In 1985 the plant was taken over by Nestlé Germany and then in 2003 by Hochwald Nahrungsmittel-Werke GmbH . The brand experienced two relaunches after the takeovers .
Since 2003 the Allgäuer Alpenmilch GmbH , u. a. also produces the products of the brand Bärenmarke , an independent subsidiary of Hochwald.
In 2006, a dairy business in Bolsward, the Netherlands, was taken over by Nestlé .
With the purchase of the canned condensed milk production from “Nordmilch” in 2008, Hochwald is the last manufacturer of condensed milk in cans in Germany.
In 2012, Erbeskopf Eifelperle eG was renamed Hochwald Milch eG and Hochwald Nahrungsmittel-Werke GmbH was renamed Hochwald Foods GmbH .
In 2016 the Meppen location was sold to the Nölke Group .
