The flood retention basin Borchen is a flood retention basin (HRB) of the water association Obere Lippe (WOL) at Ellerbach near Borchen in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Paderborn and belongs to the catchment area of the Lippe .

As a "green pool", usually located where no water, it serves the flood protection of towns situated below the pelvis (as Borchen), and it protects the river basin of the lip before flood .

Geographical location

The flood retention basin is located on the Paderborn plateau on the Ellerbach. It is located west of Hamborn Castle and east of the Borchen district of Kirchborchen . His dam is about 2 km east-northeast of the Kirchborchen town center; Somewhat south-southwest of the dam is Dahlberghof, north of Kreisstraße  2 .

history

Because the Ellerbach, which is mostly dry above, in and below the flood retention basin (its water seeps into the ground further upriver), often caused strong floods , such as at the end of May 1931 and during the Heinrich flood in July 1965, and large parts of the villages downstream flooded, was built on its lower reaches above Borchens a detention basin, the excess Ellerbachwasser picks: the dam began in 1978 and ended in 1980. the commissioning took place after completion of sample storage 1,981th

Dam with outlet structure

The dam , whose crown height is 167.5  m above sea level. NN is, is at its crown about 200 m long, 16.5 m (above the valley floor) or 20 m (above the foundation floor ) high and 5 m wide. It consists of a bed of rock with a clay core, has a structure volume of around 125,000 m³ and its slope slope is 1: 2.5 to 1: 3 on the air side and 1: 3 on the water side .

An approximately 110 m long outlet structure made of reinforced concrete with a diameter of 1.6 m and a flood relief system was integrated into the dam , which can let through up to 101.0 m³ / s; the output at the bottom outlet is 15.4 m³ / s.

Flood retention basin

The dam has 2.64 million cubic meters total and flood control room m³, in a normal memory space of 1.94 million. The design flood is 121.8 m³ / s. The storage space is designed for a precipitation or catchment area of around 87 km² . The target is 164.7  m above sea level. NN and the highest storage target (a flood that occurs on average once every 1000 years) at 166.2  m above sea level. NN . The flooded area is 31.4 ha for the storage target and 36.2 ha for the highest storage target.

Work on rivers and infrastructure

During the construction of the dam, the section of the Ellerbach in the dam area was designed as an underground canal leading through the dam. In addition, small access roads to the dam and operations building and a few walking, hiking and control trails, one of which also leads over the dam, were created.
