The Hofeberg is one of the local mountains of Spitzkunnersdorf and belongs to the landscape of the Lausitzer Bergland in the Free State of Saxony . At the foot of the mountain lies the community of Leutersdorf , to the north of the mountain rises the Oberoderwitzer Spitzberg , to the west, however, the Große Stein . The bleach pond water rises on the northern slope of the mountain .
Since 1879, the Spitzkunnersdorfer Sängerbund has been organizing the so-called Whitsun singing on the morning of Whit Monday at a viewing point on the Hofeberg. At this place there is also a memorial stone that commemorates the purchase of the Spitzkunnersdorf manor by the municipality on February 22, 1927.
The slopes of the mountain are largely overgrown with larch , pine and spruce trees. During the hurricane Kyrill in January 2007, there was a massive wind break of at least one thousand solid meters . After the storm damage had been cleared, an area of 1.9 hectares was planted with deep-rooted deciduous trees such as sessile oak , red beech and sycamore maple .
geology
The Hofeberg was created like the Oberoderwitzer Spitzberg and the Großer Stein through volcanic processes in the Miocene that formed the Bohemian Central Uplands . The rock of the mountain is part of the Eibauer basalt cover , but in contrast to the mountains mentioned above, this was not broken through by phonolithic lava, so that the basalt still forms the cover rock today. Due to weathering and deposition processes in the Pleistocene Ice Age , a fertile layer of loess formed on the slopes of the mountain .
