The Hohe Kreuzspitze ( Italian Punta Altacroce ) is a 2743  m high mountain in the South Tyrolean part of the Stubai Alps .

Location and surroundings

The predominantly marble summit structure of the Hohe Kreuzspitze rises in the south of the Stubai Alps in the mountain ridge that separates Passeier and the Ratschingstal . The communities of Moos , St. Leonhard and Ratschings meet at its summit . While the Hohe Kreuzspitze breaks off suddenly towards Passeier on the south side and therefore dominates the view of the valley from the Merano area, it sends ridges carrying peaks to the north, west and east . Towards the east the ridge sinks rapidly to the Kleine Kreuzspitze ( 2518  m ) and sweeps over various elevations with only slight differences in altitude towards the Jaufen ( 2094  m ). To the west, a short mountain stick that carries the Hochwart ( 2608  m ) protrudes into the innermost Passeier valley. The closest summit of the ridge leading north towards the main Alpine ridge is the Zermaidspitze ( 2798  m ).

Climbs

The Hohe Kreuzspitze, known as particularly scenic due to its dominant location between Passeier and the Ratschingstal, is accessible via three marked hiking trails. Climbing to the summit cross is possible from the northeast from the Ratschingstal, from the southwestern Stuls , as well as over the exposed east ridge. In winter, the mountain is also a destination for ski tourers .
