Normal way From Defreggerhaus via Mullwitzaderl and Äußeres Mullwitzkees

The Hohe Zaun ( 3451  m above sea level ) is a glacier peak in the Venediger group of the Hohe Tauern in Austria . It is completely surrounded by glaciers, from west to south lies the Outer Mullwitzkees , the ice masses in all other directions can be assigned to the Schlatenkees . Together with the Black Wall ( 3511  m ), which is less than a kilometer northwest, it is the dominant summit at the head of the Gschlösstal . Those who look up from this valley often mistake the Hohe Zaun for the Großvenediger , which is a little more than two kilometers to the northeast and which, when viewed from there, only appears as an inconspicuous snow hill to the right of the Black Wall.

rise

The normal route leads from the Defreggerhaus, located southwest of the Hohe Zaun, to the Mullwitzaderl . From there it continues in a north-easterly direction over the Outer Mullwitzkees to the summit of the Hohen Zaun. The ascent is nowhere particularly steep, however, depending on the conditions, crevasses have to be avoided. The Hohe Zaun is a popular ski touring destination . A climb, both in summer and in winter, is often combined with neighboring peaks, namely with the Black Wall , the Rainerhorn , the Crystal Wall or the Großvenediger .
