Hollow organ

A hollow organ is an organ that encloses a cavity ( lumen ) with its biological tissue . They are lined on the inside by an epithelium or endothelium . In this respect there are parallels to the body cavities and the liquor spaces . The more compact parenchymatous organs stand opposite the hollow organs .

Most of these hollow organs are muscular hollow organs , which means that the lining is surrounded by a layer of smooth muscles or heart muscles .
