Holger Kelch (born July 2, 1967 in Altdöbern , Calau district ) is a German politician ( CDU ). On September 14, 2014, he was elected Lord Mayor of Cottbus .

job

After an apprenticeship as an electrician , Holger Kelch worked as a signal technician in the Greifenhain opencast mine from 1988 to 1990 . From 1990 he worked in the Calau District Office, first as a clerk, then from 1992 as head of the vehicle registration office. From 1994 to 2002 he was head of the regulatory office in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district . During this time, in addition to part-time administration training with additional qualifications for higher administrative service, he completed part-time business administration studies at the Cottbus Administration and Business Academy .

From 2002 to 2007 he was an alderman of the city of Cottbus , from July 7th to November 28th, 2006 executive mayor , after the previous incumbent Karin Rätzel (SPD) had been voted out by a referendum on July 2nd, 2006 . Kelch ran for the new mayor in October 2006, but could not prevail against Frank Szymanski (SPD). In 2007 he was elected by the city council as mayor of Cottbus and head of the administrative and financial management division.

In 2014, Holger Kelch ran again as a candidate for the mayoral election and was elected with 50.7 percent of the votes in the first ballot. He was inducted into office on November 30, 2014.

Kelch has been a member of the CDU since 1990. From 1998 to 2000 he was a member of the district board, from 2000 to 2002 district chairman of the CDU in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district and from 2005 to 2007 deputy chairman of the CDU Cottbus.

Holger Kelch has been married since 2004 and has 4 children.
