Hans Bertram (Mayor)

Hans Bertram (born June 16, 1915 in Wachau , † December 22, 1992 in Berlin ) was a German politician of the Liberal Democratic Party of Germany (LDPD) - a block party in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). He was Lord Mayor of Cottbus from 1949 to 1953 and a member of the People's Chamber from 1950 to 1963 .

Life

Bertram, the son of a worker, attended the elementary and commercial school in Leipzig until 1932 and then completed a commercial apprenticeship until 1934. From 1930 to 1933 he was a member of the Socialist Workers' Youth (SAJ) and the Central Association of Employees (ZdA). After the outbreak of the Second World War he fought in the German Wehrmacht and was taken prisoner of war, from which he was released in 1945.

Bertram worked as a fitter and switch attendant at the Großenhain substation until 1946 and then went full-time into politics. In 1945 he joined the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB), in 1946 in the LDPD and in 1947 in the Free German Youth (FDJ). From 1946 to 1950 he was the first chairman of the LDPD district association Großenhain and city council and 1946/47 deputy mayor of Großenhain. From 1947 to 1950 he was district councilor and deputy district administrator of the Grossenhain district .

In 1948 Bertram attended a course at the State Administration School of Saxony , in 1949 another at the German Administration Academy in Forst Zinna and from 1950 to 1954 a distance learning course at the University of Economics in East Berlin , from which he graduated with a degree in economics .

At the end of 1949, Bertram succeeded Otto Weihrauch as Lord Mayor of Cottbus. In 1951/52 he was also deputy chairman of the LDPD state committee in Brandenburg and from 1950 a member of the central committee of the LDPD. From 1950 to 1963 Bertram was a member of the People's Chamber and from 1953 to 1957 he was also a member of the council of the Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg district . From 1953 he was also a member and later deputy chairman of the LDPD district committee in Berlin.

1957/58 Bertram was Vice President of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) of the GDR and from 1958 head of the municipal economy department at the District Economic Council in East Berlin.
