The Holzgraben is a left and eastern tributary of the Altmühl near Muhr am See in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district in Central Franconia .

The Holzgraben rises west of the Büchelberg and south of the Haundorfer Wald between Stadeln in the south and Wehlenberg in the north. The brook flows through a wide open landscape on the edge of the Wiesmet . It initially feeds a few smaller ponds. It then flows parallel to the Nesselbach and past Altenmuhr to the north and, after a run of around two kilometers, flows not far from Altenmuhr Castle at an altitude of 415  m above sea level.
