The Horex VR6 is a motorcycle that was built from 2013 to 2014 by Horex GmbH in Augsburg and since 2016 by HOREX Motorcycles GmbH , a subsidiary of 3C-Carbon Group AG .

history

development

The Horex GmbH

On June 15, 2010, HOREX GmbH presented the HOREX VR6 at a press conference and announced that it would be producing this motorcycle from the end of 2011. The design comes from the German designer Peter Naumann.

The sales price of the new Horex was already given in 2010 at over 20,000 euros.

On January 14, 2011, Horex GmbH announced that the new motorcycle would not be built in Bad Homburg, but in Augsburg. The company moved to Augsburg in 2012. The original plan to charge the engine with a compressor was abandoned, as was the secondary drive with toothed belts .

In April 2012, the company announced the postponement of series production to the end of May 2012. On June 1, 2012, Augsburger Allgemeine reported the start of delivery for June 2012; this deadline could not be kept either. In Augsburg, four machines could be manufactured by four fitters per day.

At the beginning of December 2013, Horex also started engine production, which was previously carried out in Markdorf at Weber Motor , in Augsburg on its own production line.

Due to insolvency, the company's owner, Clemens Neese, filed for insolvency proceedings with the Augsburg District Court on August 28, 2014, after the expectations regarding sales had apparently not been met. The aim of the insolvency administrator was a "structured sales process" to maintain business operations on a permanent basis.

The HOREX Motorcycles GmbH

The brand in Landsberg am Lech has been managed by 3C-Carbon Group AG since 2015 . The Horex VR6 was significantly revised after the takeover, the motorcycle received a completely new rear section, the engine itself, the mapping of the ECU and the exhaust system were heavily modified or improved. The chassis components are now from Öhlins , and the curb weight has been significantly reduced through the extensive use of carbon and a lithium-ion starter battery .

marketing

At the end of July 2012, the Augsburg-based company presented the first ready-to- drive pre-series motorcycles to the trade press, and delivery of the first demonstration machines was scheduled to begin in August. On the occasion of the Intermot motorcycle trade fair , press spokesman Arnd von de Fenn reported on the latest tests at the beginning of October 2012 and announced a delivery to customers for the following months. In November 2012 the first sales partners were supplied with demonstration motorcycles.

TV chef and entertainer Horst Lichter was one of the first customers to pick up his new VR6 Roadster on March 20, 2013 at the Horex factory in Augsburg .

technology

engine

The Horex VR6 is powered by a six-cylinder VR engine with a cylinder angle of 15 °. The 1218 cm³- three-valve - four-stroke engine has a maximum power of 120 kW (163 hp), the driving speed is at 250 km / h limited (by speed regulation of the motor power). The VR concept enables a particularly compact design, which is reflected in the small overall width of the cylinder head of only approx. 430 mm. The piston heads , which are inclined on one side, represent a special feature, so that the lower boundary surfaces of all combustion chambers lie in one plane, all cylinders can have a common cylinder head and, with radial arrangement of the valves, an almost parallel position of all intake ports is possible; Thereby, the total of 18 valves of three overhead camshaft ( "Tohc" - t riple o ver h ead c amshaft) are directly actuated. The middle camshaft actuates a total of nine valves on both cylinder banks, the two outer six and three. The engine with a compression ratio of 12.5: 1 is designed with a 68 mm cylinder bore and 55 mm piston stroke in the interest of relatively low piston speeds. The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 200 km / h in under 10 seconds.

drive

The drive force is transmitted from the 6-speed gearbox to the rear wheel by means of a chain.

Chassis / running gear

The bridge frame is made of aluminum with a steering head made of carbon (steel until 2014). The chassis consists of an upside-down telescopic fork with Ø 43 mm dip tubes from Öhlins and a light metal single-sided swing arm with Öhlins mono spring strut at the rear. The braking system uses high-quality components from Brembo , the ABS comes from Bosch . The 17-inch spoked wheels with light alloy rims come from the supplier Kineo.

The fuel tank holds 17 liters, of which 4 liters are in reserve.

Awards

For the design of the VR6, Horex received the German Design Award 2013 in the "Transportation and Public Space" category.

"With the new Horex VR6, the revival of the brand has been resolved in a classic and modern way at the same time, a self-confident, cleanly designed statement that touches emotionally."

- German Design Council : German Design Award 2013

The Horex VR6 Black Edition received a Red Dot Design Award in 2016 .

"The Horex VR6 Black Edition combines classic design elements with contemporary technologies and innovative lightweight construction in a convincing way."
