The eyrie is 540 m above sea level. NN high mountain in the Hessischer Spessart nature park in the urban area of Bad Orb in the Main-Kinzig district , about four kilometers southeast of the city center. It is the highest point in the Bad Orb district and the highest mountain in the Orber Reisig , a ridge in the northern Spessart between Bad Orb and the Jossgrund . Nevertheless, the eyrie is a little pronounced mountain figure that rises only slightly above its surroundings.
Geography and landscape
The eyrie is covered with a thick spruce forest; Towards the summit, ferns and thimbles form the ground vegetation. An important distinguishing feature are the two identical antenna systems and a sign "Horst, 540 m" on the summit, which would otherwise be difficult to identify. The eyrie only offers a partial view of the mountain ranges of the Bavarian Spessart from a clearing just south of the summit.
Access / infrastructure
The eyrie is accessible via various hiking trails of the Spessartbund :
- From Bad Orb through the Bremer Grund or through the short valley (steep ascent),
- from Bad Orb over the Pfarrküppel (461 m), Bieberhütte and Bieberhöhe,
- from Villbach past the Bad Orb-Jossgrund golf course ,
- from Bieber or Kassel to the upper Kasselgrund , then ascent via Jägerskreuz, Bieberhütte and Bieberhöhe.
