Athletic career

Until 1958 goalkeeper Horst Brunzlow played in the reserve team of the top division Dynamo Dresden. At the age of 22 he was transferred to the police sports club SG Dynamo in Eisleben for the 1959 season (calendar year season) , where he played all 26 league games in the second-rate first GDR league . Also in the 1960 season he was the goalkeeper at Dynamo Eisleben with 22 appearances. In 1961, GDR football returned to the summer-spring rhythm, and 39 point games had to be played in the GDR league from February 1961 to June 1962. Bunzlow was used in 17 matches up to the 26th matchday, after which he was transferred to SG Dynamo Hohenschönhausen in East Berlin , which also played in the first GDR league. At the same time, he began studying at the DHfK Sports University in Leipzig . At Dynamo Hohenschönhausen Brunzlow was called up from March 1962 in the remaining 13 league games in seven matches. In 1962/63, the GDR league returned to normal operations with 26 point games. Brunzlow played 18 games and was once successful as a penalty taker.

At the end of the season, SG Dynamo Dresden was among the relegated from the league and at the same time the previous reserve goalkeeper Horst Rohne was eliminated. As the second goalkeeper behind goalkeeper Peter Noske, Dynamo Dresden brought back Horst Brunzlow from Hohenschönhausen for the GDR league season 1963/64, who represented Noske in twelve games in the now 30 league games. The Dresdner immediately returned to the league, in which Brunzlow guarded the goal in six league games alongside Noske in the first half of the 1964/65 season. For the 1965/66 season Dynamo Dresden signed Manfred Kallenbach, another goalkeeper. Brunzlow was still nominated for the top division squad, but was no longer used. In the following years he no longer played in higher-class football, where he had played six league games and 102 games in the GDR league between 1959 and 1964. After he had finished his career as a football player, Brunzlow worked as a coach. In 1970 he led the 2nd team from Dynamo Dresden to promotion to the GDR league. Although his team managed to stay in the league in 1970/71, Brunzlow was then replaced by Wolfgang Oeser . After Brunzlow had continued to work as a youth coach at Dynamo Dresden, he was appointed coach of the GDR youth national team from 1983 to 1989 .
