Horst Ebert (musician)

Horst Ebert (born October 10, 1943 in Schrecksbach ; † October 12, 2014 in Kassel ) was a German musician . He was a founding member of the beat and rock band The Petards with his brother Klaus Ebert . The singer and guitarist was also a composer , arranger and band manager .

Life

Horst Ebert was the son of a doctor in Schrecksbach. He attended the grammar school of the Melanchthon School Steinatal . In 1960 he founded his first school band. During this time he took piano and clarinet lessons and taught himself to play the guitar. In 1961 he became a member of the school band Magic Stompers , which dedicated itself to Dixieland and, since 1962, to twist and rock music. His musical role models were The Shadows and The Beatles . In 1963, the Magic Stompers changed their name, either Lemon Drops orBlizzards called. Exceptionally, the bands covered successful English and American titles. In 1964 Horst Ebert came across the band name The Petards in an English dictionary. Together with Klaus Ebert (guitar, vocals), Hans-Jürgen Schreiber (drums) and Rüdiger Waldmann (bass), he founded The Petards in 1964 . In 1965 he passed the Abitur examination. He began to write pieces of music himself, such as the hit songs Pretty Liza and Golden Glass . In 1965 he began studying mathematics at the Philipps University in Marburg . In 1966 the first two singles were recorded in Osnabrück . In 1967 The Petards performed in the Kassel town hall , in the Kettel Club and in the Talentschuppen . The band became known nationwide through their television appearance. In 1970 Horst Ebert left the band. In 1970 he organized the 1st German Underground Festival at Herzberg Castle . After more than 1000 appearances, 5 LPs and 12 singles, The Petards disbanded in 1972.

After the band broke up, Horst Ebert continued his mathematics studies in Marburg. He then moved to Kassel and worked as a computer specialist at Wintershall in Kassel.
